I want to be able to get away from the "traditional" education process of paper and pencil learning. Students don't respond to this form of academic nowadays and easily become uninterested which causes negative behaviors to develop that distract from learning. Having materials that provide hands-on activities will keep the students motivated, engaged and help close the academic gap for the struggling students who did not receive early academic exposure. I will use these hands-on learning tools daily by incorporating them into Language Arts and Math in a variety of whole group, one on one, intervention, and small group learning centers. All of the items that I am requesting will replace the paper and pencil activities with fun, hands-on game-like activities. Having materials like the alphabet beads, sight word puzzles, count and link elephants, and the number beads will get the students playing games and manipulating the materials to expand their learning. I believe when students are physically touching and building things students retain the knowledge of what is being taught.
