I house the Gifted and Talented 3rd sgrade students on campus in my homeroom. I’m order to meet these students educational needs, we engage in a major project based learning assignment per subject per grading period in addition to the mainstream curriculum. During these projects, I would like students to be able to connect to and utilize technology in order to promote their own learning and explore outside of the whole group technology application. Many other campuses have already begun to apply skills through technology through individual access to technology, but that is only available to our students through a campus wide shared computer lab. Many of the other forms of technology (i.e. laptops, iPads, colored printers) on campus are not functioning and inaccessible. This hinders a lot of research during the PBL process. I would like to utilize the Chromebooks in my classroom to allow more opportunities for online math and science engagement as well as project research. Utilizing Chromebooks in the classroom allows for more collaboration and more access to materials and space versus cramming materials and time into the one lab available for 1 hour during the week. My students will be able to develop not only their math and science skills via projects, but also their technology skills as they use search engines and prepare PowerPoints and typed word documents.
