When it comes to reading, a child's year in first grade is arguably the most important in a student's schooling. It is during this year that most children define themselves as good or poor readers. Children should be spending more time on reading than is available at school, which puts a lot of pressure on a child’s home life. Being read to and reading along with as many books as possible is what boosts a child’s confidence, comprehension, and overall reading level. Unfortunately, due to the socioeconomic status of my school and home lives of certain students, my students are not getting the reading practice they need to succeed. With tablets, my students will benefit from being read to, following along, and gaining the reading skills they will need for the rest of their lives. All of this will boost their comprehension and reading levels to be on and above grade level. Being able to utilize these tablets in the classroom and to be taken home will give my students much needed reading practice. This is why I am focused on providing my students with the technology they need to succeed in both the classroom and their home lives.
