A sand/water table and STEM activities allow children to discover information about the world around them by providing essential hands-on experiences. The learn how to build buildings and bridges but also how to change their ideas when they first one doesn't work. They learn how to use their backgrounds to figure out why things react the way they do or to predict what will happen. When learning through play each student cares about the game they created, the experience they are having, and the discovery they made-that kind of learning makes it more meaningful. My job as a teacher is to help my children have as many meaningful experiences as possible. It encourages problem solving, collecting data, and communication skills. These skills occur naturally when children are learning through play.
