Reading is the most important factor in language learning, especially when students are able to read for pleasure from books at an appropriate reading level. Currently, we only have a small selection of books in Spanish for language learners, and it is difficult for every student to find a book that is both culturally relevant and at their reading level. My goal is to incorporate "free-reading" time for my level one language classes and Heritage classes so that we can build up literacy and joy for reading in Spanish. I would love to add more options to our Spanish library so students can get their hands on culturally relevant, level-appropriate, and intriguing books, and explore the foundational skill and wonder that is reading.
