As Maya Angelou, once said “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” As teachers our job is to "teach", but teaching is so much more than the content. Our job is to make students FEEL. Feel inspired, feel smart, feel successful, feel excited, and feel like they can accomplish anything. At our school we hold many events that are all about students sharing in these "feelings" with their families. However, many of our students do not have the resources or ability to attend these events. That's why we want to bring a memorable and positive experience to our students' homes. At our Holiday event, students will get to bond with their families while snacking on trail-mix and hot cocoa, creating red and green "slime", and playing engaging Holiday games. This event may not seem like much to many of you, but for our students these will be memories they will never forget. These parents are working their hardest to keep our students fed and clothed, so there is not often money left over for fun, family-friendly memories. This event will be a great chance to continue to build positive relationships between our school and the families we serve. It will also be an amazing opportunity to show the community that we care about these students and we will do whatever it takes to help improve their lives.
