First graders are so proud of their reading skills! With practicing Readers Workshop in my classroom, beginning readers need approximately 10-15 books in their book box at a just right level. As so many of my students are just learning to read, it is difficult to keep my classroom library fresh with plenty of beginning reader material. If I can get my students excited about reading and provide them with books at their beginning reading levels, it is my hope that they will take off and become readers! I know that being able to read is powerful; what is even more powerful is seeing the excitement of a beginning reader as they get lost in their books during reading time! My students love to take turns reading a book to the class that they practiced reading during reading time. I love that they want to share what they have learned with each other! Having a wider variety of beginning reading books will allow all students to feel successful and want to share their reading skills!
