A classroom listening center will play a key role in the literacy development of my students. There are many benefits of a listening center. Students will reap the benefits of modeled phrases and fluency, decoding unfamiliar words, exposure to vocabulary and a variety of story structures, and access to higher level texts. By listening to a story and following along in their book, students develop a sense of narrative structure and understanding of language. They also perceive reading as a source of enjoyment. Exposing my students to a variety of authors, narrators, genres, and texts will deepen their grasp of the reading process.

About my class
