One of the best ways researchers have found to teach students science is through the use of interactive science notebooks (ISNs). ISNs are notebooks given to each individual student to use throughout the year. During each unit in the class, students receive notes, activities, and review materials via sheets of paper that can be cut and pasted into their ISN. These materials are often more interactive than your standard worksheets, and ISNs allow students to engage with and take ownership of their learning. In addition to the notebooks themselves, the scissors and glue sticks will allow students to cut and paste items into their ISNs, and the labels will allow us to properly organize the notebooks, seeing as they will all look similar and will be used for multiple grades and sections. The name tag labels will be placed on the front of the notebooks and have the students name, grade, and period, and the neon colored labels will go on the spine of the notebook and have the grade and period so that the notebooks can be kept in the classroom and stay organized.
