Have you ever had to sit in one seat for an entire day and were asked to stay on task at the same time?! Even as adults, sitting still and trying to stay on task is quite difficult, many find themselves trying to fidget or move around to stay focused. First graders need flexibility and movement in their seating and learning environment so that their minds can focus on learning and not on having to sit still. This free range of motion allows them to release energy that is bottled up while applying more energy to their learning. Flexibility in the classroom seating will allow my students to dig deep into learning and will encourage them to put their energy to use in the best way possible. Seats will rotate as the students or teacher feel they need a change in pace or area. This type of seating will allow the students to develop a sense of community as well as responsibility within the classroom as well.
