Third grade is a big turning point in elementary school. My students are now part of the "big kid" group in the school. With that promotion, comes more responsibility as learners. I expect my students to take ownership of their learning. That involves making good choices regarding the environment in which students choose to work. Not all students are most successful sitting in a traditional classroom chair for several hours a day. To be honest, most adults don't do well sitting still for hours on end! On a daily basis I remind my students to advocate for themselves by choosing a spot around the classroom where they can be most successful. Many students choose to remain at their desks, but a large portion of the class chooses to stand, lay down or sit on the ground. With this project, students will have more seating options, beyond sitting in traditional chairs or on the floor. Students will be able to pull up a wobble stool or stability ball to a desk or counter. Another option is to use a wiggle cushion on a chair or on the floor. This will allow students to get their wiggles out, while staying focused on their learning.
