Our students are challenged to read 40 books of various genres a year. This challenge opens their minds and imagination to different possibilities! Exposing children to many genres may allow a reluctant reader to find "the" genre and fall in love with reading. Reading develops a child's imagination and cognitive ability. These different books will allow them to build upon their background knowledge and in turn help them feel more confident in their academics. Having these books in our classroom will make interesting novels more readily accessible for each student. Lastly, the picture books will be used to teach society standards and delicately approach bullying.
