Since most of my students are from high poverty homes, technology is not readily available. Their experience level is very limited. Our computer access at our school is limited to one weekly period in our computer lab. They do not have access to a computer for projects, research or tech embedded lessons I want to do with my kids on a daily basis. Since these devices aren't in the home the option of them taking a project home is also hindered. The iPad mini would allow me to provide a check out system for my students. They would be able to have access when it is actually needed. Science projects, writing projects, presentations, research, access to tons of fun and cool educational apps...all will be available to my students because of the check out system I could provide for my students. We also want to do Skype projects with our other campuses in our district. We have 5 schools that our 6th graders attend. They all will attend the same JR. high. Skyping will allow them to interact and collaborate with future classmates. The following Common Core Literacy standards would be addressed by this proposal: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.6 - Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others; demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a minimum of three pages in a single sitting; Research to Build and Present Knowledge: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.7 - Conduct short research projects to answer a question, drawing on several sources and refocusing the inquiry when appropriate.
