Our building may be 85 years old, but our brains are young and creative! Please help me create a classroom space that provides comfort and promotes collaboration and focus. My 4th grade students and I are piloting a "mindfulness" approach to our studies in which we not only practice essential skills, but we learn how our brains grow and develop. My students will develop a growth mindset and understanding of the importance of community. I believe my students will thrive with alternative seating choices, a clean floor space to work together, and access to organized supplies and materials. Seat cushions, beanbags and a clean carpet will make our environment comfortable and inviting. TIME for Kids magazine will provide developmentally appropriate literature and encourage deeper thinking and discussions. Gardening supplies, such as the requested root viewer gardens, will enhance our commitment to place-based education and expeditionary learning. My students will plan and then create an outdoor school garden and learning space.
