Although my students are not reading words when they first come to kindergarten, they so enjoy books! Many do not have the option of a book at home, so I love to provide books for the students in my classroom. Watching them take a book and get lost in it is so rewarding to me. A reading rug and comfy seats will allow the children to sit comfortably on the floor in the class library. I listen to many stories when the children have a book in front of them. They look at the pictures and make up a story to match. The children sit with a stuffed animal and read a story that they make up! The children develop a love of reading through these books. The library rug and comfy seats will enable the children to move about the room to find that perfect spot for their pretend friend and get lost in that story.
