All students take a book bag home every week. I choose 3 books that are on-level, books that their parents requested, and books or series that I have read to the class. Every week students choose 3-4 books that they want to read by themselves or with themselves. Students are not required to keep a log, make a report etc. The goal is for families to enjoy reading together as much as possible. One of the difficult parts of the project is displaying books in a way that helps 6-7 year-olds find titles they want and encourages them to explore. The bookshelves I have are not suitable. The storage unit I am asking for displays books in a way that is first-grade friendly.
