I teach Special education, grades 1st-5th grades. My students live in a community with one of the highest poverty, truancy, drug, and crime rates in the city. 100% receive free/reduced lunch. Most of them are not exposed to technology or the arts, besides what they receive at school. Although, my students "learn differently," they are very motivated learners. They rarely miss a day, in fact 88% of them receive the Perfect Attendance Award every year. According the the Learning Style Inventory test that I administer every year, most of my students are Tactile learners, which means that they learn better hands-on. This is the reason that a class set of hand held tablets will continue to help my students reach their greatest learning potential.
