First grade is a very important year of school; students make great gains in their academic skills. First grade is when most students learn to read and there are studies that suggest if a student is not reading on grade level by the end of first grade that they might stay behind and fail to graduate from high school. A motivating book that a child is interested in, can make all the difference in their desire to participate in the learning process. I want to have books in my classroom that kids love to read and I want to foster a love of reading in my classroom. Having these books in the classroom will help! I have seen my students read these books over and over, day after day.
