Too often, in a rush to cover all the material we need to teach in one short year, teachers resort to utilizing worksheets to reach our students. While this may be the simpler route, I have found that it is one that is far less exciting for learners and not an effective way to ensure students truly master content. I believe that school, specifically elementary school, should be engaging, challenging, and interactive, which is why I have requested the materials in this project. Third grade is a big year for students, but this doesn't mean it can't be fun. For the first time they are required to complete high-stakes end of year testing. Students make tremendous growth in reading, moving from picture to chapter books. In order to make school fun in spite of all these challenges I have requested developmentally appropriate materials that will allow my students to play games, visually represent their thinking on wipe and write boards, and create fractions using tiles.
