The Makerspace is the highlight of the STEM classroom. A large-format vinyl cutter is the favorite tool in this space. We create vinyl art for large posters, banners, and T-shirts. However, it makes a huge amount of scrap material!! We would like to repurpose the scraps from our large format vinyl cutter and use them in a smaller machine. This is where the Cricut vinyl cutter fits PERFECTLY into our Makerspace. The Cricut can use the tiniest scraps and make them into art! Additionally, I currently have 3 students whose mothers own the same machine. I have instant qualified students to use the Cricut! Talk about a win-win! My students LOVE technology! The iPad is a favorite tool in the classroom. I currently have four iPads that were gifted through another grant. The main application we use on the iPad is Procreate. Along with the Apple Pencil, Procreate turns my students into master artists! They begin creating with no knowledge and quickly progress to Procreate and Apple pencil masters. Their talent is boundless! Additionally, vector artwork created on the iPad can be used by the Cricut machine! Another win-win for the STEM Makerspace! Adding the Cricut vinyl cutter and iPad to my Makerspace will increase student learning by enhancing their creative potential. In times of Covid, teenagers need an opportunity to express themselves and be creative individuals. These tools will help meet our classroom goals.
