This project is one that I have been interested in since I first discovered flexible seating. Flexible seating comes from the recent move to make classrooms more student-centered while reinforcing the idea that not everyone learns the same way. I believe that adding alternative seats to my classroom will help my students stay motivated and engaged while releasing the built up energy they tend to have. This year, I found that when asked to find a comfortable space in the room, the majority of my students move away from their traditional chairs. They would rather sit on the carpet with a clipboard, lay on their jackets on the floor, or use one of the few flexible seating options I currently have. During theses times when I allow students to choose their own seat, they become more focused on their work and are less likely to act out. I am requesting stools, wobble chairs, wiggle cushions, and stability balls to begin my transition to a more flexible classroom. Not every student will choose to use these tools, but with these and a few other changes, every student will be able to find a space that works best for them.
