The past few years, I have found the use of technology has limited my students' creativity. There are fewer opportunities during their day to simply create and to use their imagination. I have recently switched my math program from giving additional worksheets to giving a math choice time a few times a week to give them time to be creative using math. I have recently seen a rise in a need for social-emotional learning. Students have less opportunity to play together, to build things and use their imaginations. I recently found a blog by a teacher who uses Brain Bins each morning with her students. She states this as a great way to begin the day. One point that she made was that those struggling students are not beginning their day with anxiety over how to complete the worksheet they are unable to understand. This will be yet another opportunity where my students will be able to learn to work together, to be creative, and to problem solve each morning. This can be very costly to get started. The donations requested will be directly going to the brain bins I hope to get started.
