I would like to start this new year out by ensuring that I have plenty of reading materials: books, books on CD, as well as a listening center to help my students gain the skills they need to become independent readers! Providing students with time and opportunities to practice their reading skills ensures that they will have the best academic careers possible! Having a listening center within the classroom allows the students to hear stories at times other than during a read aloud. Students need to be read to as much as possible in order to help them gain an appreciation for literature. Besides requesting a listening center and books to go along with it, I am also requesting additional materials such as bulletin boards, manipulatives, and dry erase markers that will enhance my instruction. They will also provide the students with more hands-on experiences and repetition so they will be more likely to retain the curriculum.
