The items requested will help fill a currently empty classroom. I was fortunate enough to see the classroom I will be teaching in this fall and it is empty. As a Teach For America teacher placed in this loving community, I am coming physically empty handed. We need carpets, bean bags, pillows, and leveled books to jump start our fun-filled year of learning. Creating a welcoming-comfortable environment will help to stimulate young minds as many of them encounter a school setting for the very first time. Each item requested will bring about security, support, and progress. We will use the carpets for instructional time and reading centers. I will use the literacy centers at a 'Meet the Teacher' station where I can give personalized direct instruction. In our classroom, we will start each morning using the Calendar. It will help us to learn the days of the week, months, counting, and math. The leveled books and organizer will help the students learn to read at their instructional and independent levels, moving on as needed. The clear pouch protectors will be used by students in literacy and math centers as they practice mastering different concepts. I can't wait to see them get excited about reading while sitting on one of the colored bean bags or pillows. These young minds are ready to flourish with our help.
