These materials will help my students by allowing them to engage in artistic expression from the stories we read. It gives them a more tactile way to demonstrate what they have learned as well as express their creativity through literature. It also allows them to connect to a text in meaningful and relevant ways that foster critical thinking and perspective taking. The art part will allow them to create images of the text that are made in their heads and resonate with them. Additionally, the students will be able to explore their cultural history and draw comparisons between theirs and the characters in the story.
