My students need flexible seating options in order to respond to their individual learning styles. Different students learn differently. We cannot teach all students in the same way and I believe seating options support students' individuality and increases their focus and readiness to learn. Student engagement is critical to successful learning. Flexible seating options will add to my student's excitement and engagement level. Currently in my classroom there is only one option; sitting in traditional desks. Students long for other options, often preferring to lay on the floor rather than use the desks. New seating options like stools, bean bag chairs and folding tables would allow students to have a choice in their education and to choose an environment that best supports their individual and diverse learning styles. The students in this high poverty school would greatly appreciate a nice, safe, and comfortable environment to learn in everyday. The desks currently in my classroom are very old, uneven, damaged and generally in poor condition. The addition of this furniture would add to the flexibility of our classroom and allow us to better utilize our space. My students would enjoy a non-traditional classroom setting.
