Coming to our classroom with a multitude of varying abilities, our students with disabilities require the use of visual supports which assist with their daily routines, reinforce social skills, and allow them access to the same content as their grade-level peers. These supports include visual schedules and instructions, picture signs and labels, color-coded text, and more. Unfortunately, we do not have access to a color printer in our classroom for these necessary supports. Our paper supplied by the school is also severely limited by copious amounts of mandatory Special Ed paperwork such as IEPs and progress reports, meaning we have less paper for students who require visual supports in addition to paper formats of tests, class notes, and other printed classroom materials. This results in teachers and community members generously giving up their own personal resources to print materials at home or students simply going without certain supports until resources are available. By contributing to this project, you will help supply students in Special Education with the visual supports they need in order to substantially increase understanding and engagement of the grade-level content they strive toward. In preparation for our upcoming school year, please consider adding some color to our classroom and making necessary visual supports more readily available to our students. Your assistance is their success!
