Our students are faced with more distractions than any other generation in human history, and the effect of that can be devastating on their development as readers. Ray Bradbury, the author of Fahrenheit 451 said it best, "You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture, just get people to stop reading them." The aforementioned quote expresses the importance of reading provocative novels in school. By introducing students to a novel like Fahrenheit 451 we can help foster critical thinking skills that will help them as they move into cultural leadership roles in the future. Please help us procure a class set Fahrenheit 451 so we can study a classic piece of American Literature that applies just as much today as it did the day it was written.
