Students rarely read the books they check out of the library. With the high interest books of this project and the peer pressure and expectations of a reading club, students will read more, engage with the book and come to understand that reading is fun, entertaining and an escape from their daily life. When my students read, they become exposed to experiences they never had personally. Their horizons expand, they make connections among the things they know and new learning, and they start to enjoy reading or at least appreciate the worlds and information it opens up to them. This project will increase reading skills and help students with critical thinking and inferences. It will bring a sense of accomplishment, and success for the students who participate. It will add a new dimension to their school life, increase confidence in their reading skills, and increase their knowledge of the world outside our school and their family.
