Math is a subject that often divides people into 2 groups: those that love it and those that hate it. My goal as a middle school math teacher is to bring more people into the 1st group! And part of my mission includes making math more accessible and understandable to more students. All students learn differently, so one way to open up math learning to more students is by presenting the material in multiple ways. One way to do this is by incorporating instructional math videos. The beauty of math videos is that students can pause it when they're stuck, rewatch them when needed, and even watch them at home! This is especially helpful for some of my students who don't speak English as well, since it offers a more visual lesson that they can watch and rewatch as needed. I have started my own Youtube channel with the intention of sharing instructional math videos with my students. But if my students are going to fully benefit from math videos, I need a class set of quality headphones so that my students can watch them. Not all of my students have access to a computer or internet at home, so offering them class time to watch these videos helps them better grasp the material. And the more students who are able to understand the material, the more students who will leave my class feeling successful and with a new love of math!
