Current events are necessarily relevant and provide connections to all curriculum areas. As students read and discuss current events, they analyze point of view, evaluate text claims, and determine the important ideas within a text. Scholastic Classroom Magazines help students practice their reading and analytical skills as well as address issues that are relevant to both their academic and personal lives. Perhaps equally as important, magazines are great for motivating students to want to learn! Each student will receive 14 issues, with complete access to online resources which include articles, photos, videos, digital editions, links to sites, and activities. Scholastic Magazines strongly supports standards in Reading Informational Text, Literacy in History/Social Studies, and Literacy in Science and Technical Subjects. Using this magazine in my classroom will also help students meet key standards in Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language.
