Research shows that students, even adults, learn and retain information in a setting that is natural, allowing for movement and flexibility. The donations to this project would allow my students to determine which type of seating, such as bean bag chairs, wobble cushions, and stools, equips him or her to learn best. Students who struggle to learn shut down easily, but when given an environment that fosters his or her needs, confidence builds and students begin to acquire new knowledge and skills. There is no greater joy then watching as the light bulb clicks and all of sudden they have it. I provide students opportunities to engage in lessons in a wide range of experiences and have watched as students began interacting with materials and making that connection that triggered that light bulb to click on. The alternative seating is another way to allow my students to make connections with materials so that light bulbs continue to click on.
