I am requesting a classroom set of the book, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Sure, I could get one copy and just read it to the class, but putting books in students' hands is much more effective. Having them see the words on the page as we read without feeling the pressure of reading the book by themselves exposes them to new vocabulary and improves their reading comprehension. The students will do more than just read these books, they will work together on assignments that will increase their reading comprehension and their ability to work together in groups. These books will become a part of a unit that will allow students to become more confident readers. It will also allow students the opportunity to work together and learn from each other.
