This year my partner and I are dedicated to integrating American History with English Language Arts. We are achieving our goal in integration by correlating our Social Studies curriculum with Historical Fiction. This past year I have seen the amazing impact novels have on students learning and love of reading. This integration will not only promote the love of literacy but the knowledge needed to understand our nations past. We will be using a weekly newspaper filled with our nations history . Through this we will make connections with the novels we choose. "Sign of the Beaver" is the first in the novel series. Through this book students will understand the struggles and lifestyle of the original Americans.
