Receiving the funds to purchase these iPads and durable cases, will make a world of difference in my Special Education Classroom. The majority of my students struggle with silent reading comprehension. Within my program, we have access to a reading program that individualizes instruction in reading comprehension for each student. This is a research based program that produced much success in my students abilities during the previous school year where many of my students were able to meet their IEP goals for reading comprehension. In order to successfully use this program, students need access to a wi-fi enabled device. Such devices are in very short demand this year in our school district.
In addition to using the iPads for class projects, assignments, and the reading program, there are many downloadable apps that can provide accommodations for students. Text-to-speech and speech-to-text functions are key when instructing students with learning disabilities. Also, when reading on an iPad, the text can be made larger for students with poor vision. Read-a-long books can be downloaded for students with reading disabilities.
Several of my students struggle with note taking. iPads are mobile and can be easily transported to different classrooms where lectures can be recorded in place of handwritten notes. These are just a few examples of how the iPads will positively impact my classroom. We hope for your utmost consideration in the funding of this project.
