As part of my STEM class, students are working on designing game and digital storytelling projects through Scratch Coding which include elements of art, music and design thinking. Students are learning to apply engineering and scientific concepts in the solution of design problems. We are also applying computer science concepts such as loops, conditionals, testing and debugging. My students are ready to take their creative programming to an exciting new level! By incorporating Makey Makey kits, 5th and 6th graders will be able to use everyday things as extended controllers and keyboards for their computers. Their own models/drawings, play-doh, and fruit are just a few of many possibilities that can fuel my students’ skill development in computational thinking while bringing their projects to life. These kits will provide my current and future students with unparalleled ways to interact with their Scratch Code creations while inspiring creativity and in-depth exploration of STEAM concepts of science, technology, art, engineering and math!
