Next school year will be our second year departmentalizing, which means that each 4th grade teacher teaches a particular content area to all the students in the grade. I am the reading teacher to all 4th graders. This school year I have really looked for new and exciting ways to engage my students in reading and to help them foster a love for reading. One of the ways that I have found to do that is to expose my students to a variety of genres. Not all of my students have access to new and exciting books, especially on their reading level. I am looking to expand my classroom library so students can have a chance to read different books and gain a passion for reading.
