Currently, only one class set of the novel, "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" exists in our school. It must be shared between five different 8th Grade English Language Arts teachers and classrooms within a few weeks time in order to meet our required curriculum. This leaves very little time to actually analyze and work with the text, as is required by our curriculum. As each of our classes consist of almost 50% of students with learning disabilities and special needs, most of our students need even more time to work with the text than the average 8th grader. A class set of this novel would allow our students to work with the text at the pace that best works for them and will allow them to fully analyze the text and grasp the concept of theme and its development over the course of the novel.
