In fourth grade, students learn about different types of forces, how energy can change forms, and the renewable/nonrenewable forms of energy. The resources that I have selected such as the Simple and Powered Machines set will help students review skills learned in 3rd grade (simple machines). The Simple and Powered Machine set also allows students to have an opportunity to experiment with 4th grade concepts such as force and motion, forms of energy, and how energy can change forms. Combine this set with the Pneumatic set students can understand the difference between kinetic and potential energy, as well as using gas-powered (air) systems. The additional resources that I have included, the Renewable Energy set, will help students understand the idea that we need to create technology that use more renewable forms of energy that are better for the environment. Students need a chance to generate and explore ideas to be better problem solvers. Having resources that allow students to have hands-on designing and building experiences will promote creative thinking and problem solving skills.
