Learning a language is not an easy task. It is important to incorporate multiple strategies to ensure that all students are engaged and learning. Having interactive activities that the little ones can manipulate and make sense of what they are learning is instrumental when teaching ESL students. Pictures and realia are essential when teaching specific concepts. Realia for ESL students makes their experience more memorable and it helps them make connections between objects and vocabulary. It also helps those students who learn better with hands-on activities. In addition, using pictures and realia helps the students reinforce what they are learning in school at home.
