My students love when we read together. We read one chapter and then talk about the characters, make connections, and share our thoughts about what may happen when we read the next chapter. I would love to continue this during this time of distance learning. Right now, the majority of my students do not have access to their own books. Libraries are closed and not all of my students have internet access. I would love to be able to give each of my students copies of three books that I know they would enjoy. I read Harry Potter aloud to the class at the first quarter of the school year and they have been begging to reread it since. I included a Diary of a Wimpy Kid book because my kids always reached for them first. My students love learning new trivia facts, so I included National Geographic 5,000 Awesome Facts to keep their minds hungry for knowledge. I also included friendship bracelets so that my students can still feel connected while we are apart. I'm eager to discuss their books with them during our virtual class meetings. I know my students will love this new addition to our distance learning meetings, and they will then have books of their own at home to read with their family. I also hope this will entice them to want to read more!
