My students are easily overwhelmed with trying to understand math content and the math problems based on that content. Many of them come from homes where a different language is spoken, so learning sixth grade math can be extra challenging. These math students are very bright and capable, but they need extra time with the material to think through the mathematical ideas and processes. Sixth-grade students often have trouble maintaining the kind of focus needed to engage in authentic mathematical learning. Technology has a way of capturing their attention and helping them to focus on the task at hand. It bolsters their enthusiasm helps students become more accountable for their learning.
