I work in an urban school district serving a diverse student body. My students come from all over Boston with a variety of academic and social needs. It's this diversity that makes being an urban educator so rewarding. As a reading specialist I support struggling readers and writers to close the gap and become proficient readers and writers. Most of my students are performing at least 2 grade levels below their peers and benefit from targeted small group instruction to meet their needs and push them towards meeting or exceeding the benchmark. The student body is 54% female, 46% male, with 46% identifying as black, 35% hispanic, 12% white, 3% Asian, 1% Native American and roughly 4% identifying as multi-race. 83% of our student body qualifies for free breakfast and lunch.
