The National Council Of Teaching Mathematics position on using technology with math states: “It is essential that teachers and students have regular access to technologies that support and advance mathematical sense making, reasoning, problem solving, and communication. Effective teachers optimize the potential of technology to develop students' understanding, stimulate their interest, and increase their proficiency in mathematics. When teachers use technology strategically, they can provide greater access to mathematics for all students.” Our students come to school eager to learn. The Chromebooks will be used to access applications that help us monitor student learning through our school’s digital math portfolios on the Seesaw application. Parents, teachers, and students will have access to timely feedback, and students will be able to communicate their reasoning, which is captured and stored. Students will reflect on their growth, to further instill the value that they can do hard things, they can solve problems, they are effective communicators, and very importantly, that learning is a lifelong pursuit and to embrace the opportunities to reflect and grow!
