2nd grade is an important year for young readers. We move beyond word calling and into increasing fluency and comprehension skills. It is important that my students know that reading is an enjoyable activity and that a good book can take them to places they have only imagined. I teach a diverse group of students ranging from below grade level readers to gifted learners. My students come to school each day ready to show Pirate PRIDE and do their personal best. I want to be able to provide them with everything they need to be successful in and out of my classroom. I want to provide them with a wide variety of books. Books that can provide them with facts, books that can make them laugh, and books that make them want to read more and more.
