Students love thinking, planning, debating, and mulling over what could happen to the world if things don't change. I am requesting a variety of texts in the dystopian genre for a literature study. These books have a wide range of reading levels, allowing students to select their optimal reading level, thereby gaining interest in literature. Students will be divided into small reading groups, where they will discuss, debate, and create projects and presentations based on their text selection. These books will allow students to open their minds and expand their understanding of the world around them. I will supplement the reading with a variety of nonfiction articles from a variety of news sources. I am very excited to teach this unit as I believe students will be stimulated and excited.
