Have you ever thought about the benefits of storytelling? Many of you would answer, rarely or never. Children tend to incline towards technology – and in the process, the art of storytelling is lost. Storytelling forms a major part of a child’s overall personality development. Listening and interacting with stories can help a child to shut down their gadgets and escape from the many adverse effects it has on them. Here are the many benefits of storytelling! 1. Stories tend to instill values in children such as courage, bravery, and honesty. 2. Storytelling enhances children's vocabulary. They hear and learn new words and phrases as well as learn the pronunciation of words. 3. By reading stories to young children it improves their listening skills. It allows them to concentrate and be more attentive. 4. Storytelling jumpstarts their imagination. It helps them imagine the characters, setting, places, plot, and situation. 5. Reading stories to children helps to sharpen their memory. Through the use of pictures and interactive props, you give them the ability to summarize the story using a variety of their senses. Please help my special education students engage in meaningful cognitive development through the use of storytelling!
