One of the most difficult parts of teaching students genetics is teaching them about molecules and processes that they can not see. To fully understand genetics students need to understand the structure of DNA and how our bodies use our DNA to make protein which carry out all of the life processes that keep us alive. Providing these models for my students will enrich their learning and provide hands-on experience that will help them achieve a deeper understanding of DNA and how are traits are expressed. Students are tired of learning through online simulations. Online simulations have their place, but COVID has limited us to mainly using online learning methods. My students do not and cannot only learn this way. Many students need a hands-on approach to learn well. This is especially the case with hard concepts they cannot see. Having these models to teach DNA , cell division and protein expression will greatly enhance my students learning experience.
