These reading comprehension and vocabulary games would increase student engagement and achievement in reading. Reading is a weakness among my students. These games would allow students to practice reading skills while having fun. Fourth graders love to play games and are much more engaged and excited to learn when it is presented to them in the form of a game. The games would be used in a variety of ways throughout the year. I would use them in reading groups, whole group, and with a small group of students playing independently. The games focus on vocabulary development, and comprehension skills. According to Psychology Today "By age three, it is believed that children growing up in poor neighborhoods or from lower-income families may hear up to 30 million fewer words than their more privileged counterparts." This is reality for many of my students. They are faced with the challenge of playing catch up in order to close the achievement gap. These games would provide another experience to help my students grow.
