This year I have noticed that my scholars have not been very excited to participate in independent reading time. They complain about there being no space for them to read comfortably. We currently only have a rug for whole instruction and the rest of the floor is covered in tile. The chairs aren't comfortable either. I plan to create a library/reading corner that my scholars will be eager to sit in and read. The bookshelves will be used to organize our books by reading level. The rug, pillows, and bean bag will offer comfortable seating to the scholars. Reading is so imperative for my scholars, especially the ELL's. We have to take the STAAR test in 3rd grade and without a solid reading foundation, it can be very overwhelming for them. I want to provide my scholars with a space that is warm and inviting and makes them excited to read more.
